Pursuing a lifetime of fitness takes a certain kind of person now a days. Unfortunately for most of us the concept of a lifetime of fitness does not rank up high in terms of personal goals we need to achieve in our lives. The proof of that of course is the off the charts obesity rate we have going on in the world right now but predominantly in the US. When you talk about fitness to a lot of people their idea of a lifetime of fitness usually only lasts a few months out of each years. People are constantly falling off and getting back on the fitness band wagon.
I can say honestly from my own personal experience that my mind knows that the smart thing to do is to stay committed to a lifetime of fitness. My emotions and will power to actually stick to a lifetime of fitness on the other hand are little more flexible on this point
I am for the most part a pretty fit and healthy person and really have no complaints physically. I am however carrying an extra twenty pounds which was no big deal when I was younger but now that I am coming up on forty. I am starting to notice little nagging pains and tasks that are most likely being affected by that extra weight I have been carrying around for a good eight years now.
I have become so accustomed to my present weight because it has been manageable over the years and not really a big deal. However over the long term I feel that I am starting to feel the health effects of that extra twenty pounds on the overall well being of my body. I feel that even though over the years I have managed to go to the gym or workout at home in some form or another that this was enough to give me the lifetime of fitness that I wanted to pursue. I know for a fact that my diet for one has not at all been a history of choices that were more gerared towards the short term instant gratification of wow that taste good let me eat some more of that! It’s hard to keep your eye on the ball of lifetime fitness when there is a yummy piece of cake, pie or your favorite ice cream. I do love me some ice cream and I have the twenty extra pounds to prove it
I do know quite a few people that seem to have a good grasp on their long term goals of maintaining a lifetime of fitness. I mean they are mindful of not only the amount of exercise they get on a daily or weekly basis but also their daily intake of not only calories but they type of calories they are consuming. Another common factor just in the few people that I know that are committed to a lifetime of fitness is that they practice the most natural forms of medicines as well. They try and do small maintenance things like having a glass of wine once in a while or taking a baby aspirin for their heart. It’s these small steps that they take the attention to the benefits of little things like that which in the long term will only bring them closer to their goal of lifetime fitness.
It’s the commitment to the long term goal of lifetime fitness as a lifestyle that more of us really need to strive for in our every day lives. Again it’s those long term goals that so many of us have a problem achieving in this world of instant gratification. Let’s face it we live in a world of the one second commercial where 30 seconds in too long for people to pay attention. I will admit that those 1 second commercials for Miller High Life during the Superbowl were pretty funny. Anyway back to the point, what was that again? Oh yeah the challenges of sticking to a lifetime of fitness. Especially here in America we are instant gratification addicts and that is a big reason why there are so many of us that are overweight or obese and also why so many of us are in debt up to our eye balls and why the government is in such a mess. We habitually go for the quick fix in spite of what the long term effects will be especially when it comes a commitment like lifetime fitness.
