I was at the gym this morning when I noticed one of the fitness trainers there in their off time doing some training of their own. When it occurred to me that this fitness trainer was the probably the first one that I have seen actually exercising at the gym and not just instructing a client on what exercises they should be doing.
The reason why this struck me as a bit strange is because I have actually been attending this gym for quite a few years now and as long as I can remember I don’t recall seeing a fitness trainer working out on their own. Now I will grant you that I am not a gym rat and I do not spend my waking hours at the gym. I get in for my time and I get out definitely not one of those social fitness people that are at the gym because it’s a place to meet people and hang out.
Any way back to my observation about the fitness trainer working out. This particular fitness instructor is in pretty good shape so it was really not a surprise to see them working out. On the other hand there are quite a few “fitness instructors” that work there that shall we say don’t look like they have worked out a day in the their life. Other than to get their fitness trainers certification with not much thought of personal fitness after that.
I just don’t know how anyone that is serious about getting healthy and fit would sign on to take advice from a fitness trainer that is not in top physical condition. That’s great that the person is a certified fitness trainer and they are working at a big brand name gym but if you are not in much better shape than some of your customers why would I want to be one of your customers. It’s just amazes me to see so called fitness trainers at the gym showing people how to work out and get healthy when they don’t exactly look like the picture of fitness themselves.
Am I wrong about this observation? Would you take or consider following the advice of a fitness trainer that is not in top physical condition? That to me would be like having a financial adviser in control of your money that is in the middle of filing bankruptcy, not good
Or a medical doctor who tells you not to smoke then goes out on their break for a quick smoke break. It’s true though isn’t it people take advice or even worse you spend your hard earned dollars to get your fitness advice from a fitness trainer that can not work out their way of a paper bag.
