Well the end of summer has come and gone and the new school year has begun for all. With the passing of these two significant events so comes the crowd of people looking to get into shape or back into shape by joining the local gym or coming back to the gym. As a regular gym rat that goes automatically 5 days a week for a few years now it interesting to notice the wave of new people that come in to the gym at this time of year.
The fall time for new people coming to the gym is almost as drastic as those new years resolution people that come into the gym in January and February. What drives people to make time for the gym in the fall and winter months but then drop it as fast as they started when the weather begins to get nice again. It’s funny to see people hit the gym hard for a few months and get into shape then disappear for a couple of months only to return out of shape again and starting all over.
There’s something about doing outdoor activities that people some how translate to equalling a work out in the gym. I wish it worked like that. Unfortunately a solid full body 30 minute workout in the gym is not the same as a round of golf or time on the field or court. All great things to do for your health I have just found that there is no replacing the benefit of a hardcore 30 minute gym session.
The key of course is the intensity in which you do your workouts. You should be able to get a solid heart pounding muscle burning routine in about 30 minutes or even less. There’s no reason to be in the gym longer than that unless you are training for an event of some kind. I think that is why so many people burn out on the gym life in just a few months they make it to complicated and boring.
The worst time to go to the gym is at night or after work. This is why. It’s the end of the day and most people there are done they have no where that they have to be after the gym. It’s all down time at that point of the day. Most people in the gym during the afternoon or evening hours are socializing in some form or another. Dragging the work out times from 30 minutes or so to and hour or worse even longer! Try going to the gym with the early morning crowd before work. Everyone is there to get their work out in and done. Most people are motivated by the fact that they have to go to work leaving less time for socializing and more time for working out. The energy in the room is completely different from the evening hours to the morning hours, try it out you will be amazed.
What do you think of the people that stop and start their gym work outs? Why can’t more people stick to their work out routines as a way of life? Please share your opinions about working out with a few comments of your own and thanks for reading.
